Judges List Qualifications – Brief Outline of Lists

List A1

Judges whom the German Shorthaired Pointer Club would support and who have previously been approved by the Kennel Club to award Challenge Certificates in the breed.

List A2

Judges who fulfil all the requirements for the A3 list and who have been assessed in accordance with the Kennel Club requirements.

List A3

Judges whom the German Shorthaired Pointer Club would support to award Challenge Certificates but, who as yet, have not been approved by the Kennel Club.

List B

Judges whom the German Shorthaired Pointer Club would support to judge the breed without Challenge Certificates.

List C

Judges whom the German Shorthaired Pointer Club would support to start a judging career in the breed.

Judges’ lists are compiled by the Show Committee of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club giving due cognizance to:-

  •   The number and type of shows judged
  •   Number of years over which judging experience is spread
  •   Number of dogs actually judged, as opposed to the number of entries    received
  •   General judging experience
  •   Inclusion in the KC Stud Book
  •   Attendance of the required Kennel Club Seminars
  •   German Shorthaired Pointer Club Seminars attended
  •   Stewarding engagements
  •   Attendance of a Field Trial or Open HPR Gundog Working test
  •   Showing an interest in the breed
  • JUDGES’ LISTS CRITERIA

It is emphasised that the following criteria are to be regarded as the absolute minimum and inclusion on the various lists is at the discretion of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club Show Committee. The criteria will reflect changes that are mandated as part of the Kennel Club’s Judges Education Programme.

Requirements for inclusion are:-

For people who have previously been approved by The Kennel Club to award CCs in the breed, have completed their first appointment, and have the support of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club.

For people who fulfill all the requirements for the A3 list, who have been assessed in accordance with Kennel Club requirements and accepted by The Kennel Club for inclusion on an A2 list, and have the support of The German Shorthaired Pointer Club.

  • Minimum of 7 years of judging experience in the breed and have the support of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club.
  • To have judged the breed at a minimum of 10 Open Shows or Championship Shows without CCs with an adequate geographical spread.
  • To have judged a minimum of 30 classes
  • To have judged a minimum of 70 dogs.
  • To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the relevant examination of Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures within the last 7 years, (As of 01-07-2001).
  • To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Conformation and Movement, (As of 01-07-2001).
  • To have attended a Conformation & Movement “Hands-on Assessment” conducted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the assessment, (As of 01-07-2005).
  • To have attended at least one Breed Appreciation Day run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and assessment, (As of 01-07-2001).
  • To have viewed the Kennel Club ring stewarding seminar and taken the online quiz
  • To have completed the Kennel Club critique writing seminar and taken the online quiz
  • To have attended an HPR Field Trial (FT) or an Open Gundog HPR Working Test (GWT) for the relevant Subgroup for this Breed.
  • To have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 dogs when they obtained their first entry in the Kennel Club Stud Book (Save in exceptional circumstances).
  • To have stewarded at 12 shows.

Copies of all certificates will be required on application.

Judges who demonstrate that they have met the above criteria are eligible to be nominated to award Challenge Certificates for the very first time in German Shorthaired Pointers, judge an unlimited number of classes for the breed at Limited, Open, or Championship Shows (no CCs). Any Variety classes, groups, and Best in Show at Open and Limited Shows.

NON-BREED JUDGES who already give CCs in other breeds are required to meet the following criteria before they can be considered for the A3 List

  • To have attended at least one Breed Appreciation Day run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and assessment, (As of 01-07-2001).
  • To have attended an HPR Field Trial (FT) or an Open HPR Gundog Working Test (GWT) for the relevant Subgroup for this Breed (this only applies to judges if the breed they give CCs in is not in the HPR sub-group).

Copies of all certificates will be required on application.

The Club would look favourably upon individuals who have shown an interest in the breed.

  • To have 6 years of judging experience in the breed and have the support of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club.
  • To have judged a minimum of 5 Open Shows or Championship Shows without CCs with an adequate geographical spread.
  • To have judged a minimum of 15 classes
  • To have judged a minimum of 40 dogs.
  • To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the relevant examination of Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures within the last 7 years, (As of 01-07-2001).
  • To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Conformation and Movement, (As of 01-07-2001).
  • To have attended a Conformation & Movement “Hands-on Assessment” conducted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the assessment, (As of 01-07-2005).
  • To have attended at least one Breed Appreciation Day run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and assessment, (As of 01-07-2001).
  • To have viewed the Kennel Club ring stewarding seminar and take the online quiz
  • To have completed the Kennel Club critique writing seminar and take the online quiz

Copies of all certificates will be required on application.

Judges who demonstrate that they have met the above criteria are eligible to judge an unlimited number of classes for the breed at Limited, Open, or Championship Shows (no CCs). Any Variety classes and Best in Show at Limited Shows

  • All Judges are required to meet JEP level 1 before they can accept an appointment. The minimum requirements are:

    • Minimum of 5 years of proven interest in pedigree dogs
    • To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures
    • To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Conformation and Movement, (As of 01-07-2001).
    • Complete a minimum of 2 stewarding appointments

    Copies of all certificates will be required on application.

    Judges who demonstrate that they have met the above criteria are eligible to judge up to 3 classes (4 if one is a Puppy class)
